About me

I graduated from West Virginia University in 1994 with a degree in art education. I also hold a Masters degree in Instructional Technology from Towson University and have an Administrator 1 Endorsement. I have been teaching in Baltimore County since 1994 and have been at Edgemere Elementary since 1995. My specialty is painting, but I love finding interesting ways to integrate art and technology. This year I will be teaching  kindergarten through fifth grade. One of my professional areas of interest is the contribution of art education on developing literacy in elementary school students. When I'm not teaching art I spend my days on the water paddling my surfski, sea kayak, or SUP.
My goal is to provide instructional experiences that are designed to engage students in visual problem solving, decision making, and experimentation with media. Through these experiences, students develop the foundational skills that establish confidence in communicating visually, empowering them to think and respond critically, creatively, and independently. The skills learned in art are transferable skills that enrich and support learning in other curriculum areas.

Attention parents: Please check out BCPSOne to keep up to date on your child's grades in art. Students receive up to 10 points per class for participating in art activities. Upon conclusion of an art project students receive a summative assessment worth between 0 and 100 points. In order to align with the National Core Arts standards and to show consistency across contents, all Fine Arts areas will be using the graded categories Creating, Presenting, Responding, and Connecting. There will also be a Not Graded category.
