Unit 1:  Personal Health

In this unit students will work to answer these essential questions:

How can applying the components of wellness lead to a healthy lifestyle?

What roles do fitness and nutrition play in a healthy lifestyle?

What does harassment look like and what strategies can I use to avoid these situations?


Unit 2:  Substance Use and Abuse

In this unit students will work to answer these essential questions:

How can you tell the difference between behaviors that promote a healthy lifestyle or behaviors that hinder a healthy lifestyle?

How can different drugs and substances impact a person's mind, body and overall wellness?

How can external factors influence a person's decisions?

 

Unit 3:  Disease Prevention

In this unit students will work to answer these essential questions:

What is the difference between communicable and noncommunicable diseases?

What are the risky behaviors or habits that spread communicable diseases or put someone at risk for a noncommunicable disease?

How can people change their behaviors to prevent the spread of communicable diseases or lower their risk for some noncommunicable diseases?

How does the body, including the immune system, hep fight infection?

Why is HIV/AIDS a communicable disease?


Unit 4:  Human Growth and Development

In this unit students will work to answer these essential questions:

How do evolving family relationships influence you during adolescence?
 

What changes does my body go through during puberty and how can I take care of myself during that time?

How can peer groups positively and negatively impact you during adolescence?
