Reading and writing are the building blocks upon which all other
learning take shape. The reading and writing program at Edgemere Elementary is based on the
Baltimore County reading curriculum and is
supported through the Houghton
Mifflin
reading series as well as
Open Court phonics instruction. In addition to these texts,
web-based material is available for
Eduplace's Legacy of Literacy.
In support of classroom teachers, Edgemere employs four instructional assistants as well as a full time reading specialist. Programs such as the Baltimore County Book Mobile and "Flip Over Books!" give the children additional opportunities and incentives to read in school and at home. Daily writing is also an important aspect of our language arts program. Please be on the lookout for our semiannual Literary magazine which highlights student stories, reports, and poems. |
